Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte said he was “disturbed” by coverage of an interview he gave with Sky Italia, which has resulted in the club asking him not to do interviews on Italian television.

Conte told Sky Sports Italia earlier this week that his squad was “maybe, on paper, weakened” after signing two players from Juventus and letting four leave on transfer deadline day.

But on Friday, ahead of the club’s Premier League match against Manchester City, Conte accused the media of trying to “create a problem” between him and Daniel Levy, arguing that his words had been taken out of context.

He said: “I think I was very, very clear. I don’t understand why someone wants to try to create a problem with me. Not only me but also in the past.

“I read stories in the past about this club and it creates a problem with the coach and the chairman and the club. The chairman knows my thoughts very well.

“Sorry, but I was a bit disturbed by this situation.”

Conte added: “It means the club now doesn’t want me to speak to Italian media because the translation was not so clear with my thoughts.”

When pressed on his future at the north London club, Conte said: “I always said I’m enjoying my time with Tottenham, enjoying working with these players. I always said this.

“Then we have four months at the end of this season and we have to try to do our best to finish in the best place possible in this league. And then we’ll see.”
