300 Entertainment, the studio behind many major artists including Megan Thee Stallion, Mary J. Blige and Gunna is expanding its offering and pushing into film and TV with the creation of offshoot 300 Studios.
The content company will be headed by Kevin Liles, the music mogul and head of 300 Entertainment. Liles already has a strong track record in the film and TV industry. He has produced a number of projects in different capacities – and to varying levels of success – throughout his career including the Rush Hour and Rush Hour II, How High, Blood Brother, The Michael Vick Project and Trey Songz: My Moment.
1998 Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan star in the movie “Rush Hour.”
In a statement, Liles said on the new venture, “I have dedicated my career to telling the story of our culture and investing in the artists and creatives who have shaped it around the world. With 300 Studios, I look forward to incubating, developing, and producing content for all formats that tell the important and inspired stories from the next generation of cultural innovators,”
The first project from the newly formed entity is set to be RACE: Bubba Wallace, around the sole full-time African-American NASCAR driver – racing on Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s team – as he speaks out against racial injustice with the historical impact of George Floyd looming over the period.
The studio’s specific remit is around diverse storytelling and exhibiting content around stories that are generally not covered through mainstream linear commissioning due to a perceived lack of multicultural understanding.
At present 300 Studios has roughly 20 projects in production, varying from films, T.V. series, podcasts and music factual programming. Former Viacom executive Kelly G. Griffin is set to helm creative strategy with Nolan Baynes pegged as general manager.
In December 2021, 300 Entertainment were acquired by Warner Music Group for a reported $400 million. The further development of programming internally was said to be a key point in the company’s plans post-sale.
