Covering the impact of coronavirus on the sports world
Two contenders for the Big Ten title will meet Sunday on CBS as No. 6 Purdue plays host to No. 16 Ohio State in the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. Purdue swept the regular-season series 2-0 last season in a couple of close games before Ohio State picked up an overtime win over the Boilermakers in the Big Ten Tournament.
With many of the same stars back from those closely contested games, this could be another good one. Purdue (17-3, 6-3 Big Ten) enters off an 83-73 win at Iowa on Thursday in which the Boilermakers hit 13 of 22 shots from 3-point range. The Buckeyes (13-4, 6-2) are also entering off a double-digit league road win after they handled Minnesota 75-64 on Thursday.
Star junior forward E.J. Liddell led the way for OSU in that victory with 23 points and 15 rebounds. In many ways, these teams mirror each other as both are among the nation’s best shooting squads but still seeking the defensive prowess typically associated with championship-caliber teams. It should make for a compelling contest with big-time Big Ten implications.

If Ohio State is going to win this game, it will need an offensive explosion from one of its guards to help it keep pace with a Purdue squad that routinely scores 80 or more points without much interference. That’s a big ask on the road. If anyone in the Big Ten can negate the offensive prowess of Liddell, it’s Purdue with big men Trevion Williams and Zach Edey. Look for the Boilermakers to keep Ohio State at arm’s length. Prediction: Purdue 84, Ohio State 73
