Harris runs 1:46.49 in the indoor meet in New York.
INDOOR TRACK
Isaiah Harris of Lewiston opened his indoor track season with a third-place finish Saturday in the 800 meters at the Millrose Games in New York.
Bryce Hoppel won the race with a late surge past Michael Saruni, finishing in 1 minute, 46.05 seconds. Saruni held on for second in 1:46.32, and Harris clocked 1:46.49.
Harris, the 2018 NCAA outdoor champion, just missed qualifying for the 2021 Olympics, placing fourth at the U.S. trials.
HOCKEY
ECHL: Nick Master’s short-handed goal with 4:19 remaining gave the Maine Mariners a 2-1 win over the Reading Royals at Cross Insurance Arena.
Reading’s Jacob Pritchard scored the only goal in the first period. Cameron Askew tied it with a power-play goal midway through the second, assisted by Master and Mathew Santos.
Maine goalie Jeremy Brodeur finished with 31 saves.
GOLF
PGA: Luke List earned his first PGA Tour victory with a birdie on the first playoff hole at Torrey Pines, holding off Will Zalatoris well after sunset to win the Farmers Insurance Open.
List began the final round five shots back of leaders Zalatoris and Jason Day and had to wait nearly two hours after closing with a 6-under 66 to see if he had a shot for the first win in a career that began in 2013.
Zalatoris, also seeking his first career victory, barely missed an 8-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th. After both players rescued their errant playoff tee shots from a fairway bunker, List spun an exceptional 131-yard approach shot to within a foot of the cup.
Zalatoris and List finished regulation at 15-under 273.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Rory McIlroy moved within two shots of leader Justin Harding after the third round at the Dubai Desert Classic in the United Arab Emirates as the Northern Irishman tries to win the event for the third time.
McIlroy shot a 3-under 69 to get to 10 under at the tournament he won in 2009 and 2015. Harding maintained his lead with a 71 at Emirates Golf Club.
LPGA: Lydia Ko shot an even-par 72 in difficult conditions to open a two-shot lead over Danielle Kang (74) heading into the final round of the Gainbridge LPGA in Boca Raton, Florida.
Ko was at 11-under 205 in the LPGA Tour’s first full-field event of the year.

WORLD CUP QUALIFYING: U.S. forward Timothy Weah was unable to travel to Canada for Sunday’s World Cup qualifier because he did not meet vaccination requirements to cross the Canadian border, Coach Gregg Berhalter said.
Weah, who was involved in the play that led to the only goal in Thursday’s 1-0 victory over El Salvador, has received one vaccine dose and was infected with COVID-19 before he could receive his second shot, Berhalter said.
Berhalter said the team became aware of Weah’s situation “a couple of days ago” and had hoped it could be resolved before Sunday’s game.
“This was a nuanced technicality that we were hoping was going to get pushed through and, unfortunately, it didn’t,” Berhalter said.
Canada is undefeated through nine games and leads the group, one point ahead of the U.S. and two ahead of Mexico. Panama is in fourth place, five points behind Canada.
SKIING
WORLD CUP: In the absence of Sofia Goggia, world champion Corinne Suter won the last downhill before the Beijing Olympics.
Suter had a dominant performance in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, to finish 0.51 seconds faster than Swiss teammate Jasmine Flury for her first World Cup victory since Dec. 18, 2020. Cornelia Huetter of Austria was third, 0.78 behind.
Goggia would have been the overwhelming favorite to defend her Olympic downhill title, but she was injured during a super-G in Italy last week. The 29-year-old Italian sprained her left knee, partially tore a cruciate ligament and has a “minor fracture” of the fibula, along with some tendon damage.
Goggia has started physical rehab with the aim of returning in time for the Olympic downhill on Feb. 15.
