Sylvia Fowles is returning to the Minnesota Lynx for her final WNBA season, the team said on Tuesday. This will be the center's eighth season in Minnesota and 15th in the league.

"There are a few reasons why I chose to play another year," Fowles said in a statement. "The main reason for my return had a lot to do with our fans. I wanted to make sure I gave them the opportunity to see me play my final season. It feels right that my playing career finishes in Minnesota; there’s nowhere else I’d rather be."

Fowles, 36, is a two-time WNBA champion and Finals MVP with the Lynx in 2015 and 2017. She also won the league MVP in 2017, finishing with 35 of the 40 first-place votes. Fowles is a seven-time All-Star, three-time All-WNBA first team selection, four-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year (including in 2021) and seven-time WNBA All-Defensive first team selection.

She averaged 16 points and 10.1 rebounds per game last season.

Prior to joining the Lynx, Fowles played seven seasons with the Chicago Sky. She was drafted second by the Sky in 2008 after spending four years in college with LSU.

The Minneosta Lynx finished third in the WNBA last season with a 22-10 record, before losing to the Sky in the second round of the playoffs. The Lynx open their 2022 season against the Seattle Storm on May 6.
