Walker Zimmerman and Weston McKennie scored on two set pieces and Christian Pulisic added a third after coming on as a second-half sub to give the USMNT a 3-0 win over Honduras in the sides' World Cup qualifier in frigid St. Paul, Mn. on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in CONCACAF, Canada's visit to El Salvador could further cement a World Cup spot and Mexico looks to improve on recent performances by hosting Panama.

Paul Tenorio, Sam Stejskal and Jeff Rueter are on the ground (and bundled up) in Minnesota. Josh Kloke is following Canada and Felipe Cárdenas is doing the same with Mexico. Stay tuned here for live updates, highlights and analysis from all the action around CONCACAF.

In the end, neither the cold nor Honduras could ice the USMNT, which moved a big step closer to Qatar with a dominant 3-0 win.
But the result can't mask the reality that playing in Minnesota in February was a very flawed decision.

Here's the current table through 11 matches:

February 2, 2022 at 11:56 PM EST
An 80th minute penalty from Raúl Jiménez kept Mexico on pace to qualify for Qatar 2022. El Tri did just enough to defeat Panama and stay in third place in the Octagonal standings. Mexico are tied with the United States on 21 points. Canada leads the table with 25.
It was another anxiety-filled night for Mexico. El Tri were under immense pressure to earn a crucial three points and stave off any thoughts of ending coach Tata Martino’s turbulent tenure. After an even first half in which Panama had more of the ball, Mexico improved in the second 45 minutes. However, star winger Hirving Lozano left the field on a stretcher and in tears with an apparent shoulder injury. His status for Mexico’s big qualifier against the USMNT on March 24th is in doubt. Héctor Herrera will miss the U.S. game due to yellow card accumulation.

Mexico is struggling to break down Panama at home in a 0-0 nightcap tonight, and one of El Tri's best attacking players is now out through injury.

Also, LA Galaxy defender Julian Araujo comes on to make his World Cup qualifying debut.

Another injury for Lozano. Julian Araujo and Diego Lainez coming on for Mexico.

Canada’s 2-0 win over El Salvador was far from their most compelling effort of this World Cup qualification campaign, but they got the job done in the humidity of San Salvador by enduring evident fatigue, putting up with the opposition’s continued heavy tackles and scoring one of the strangest goals in the program’s history.

Canada’s head coach John Herdman heavily rotated his squad from their win over the United States three days earlier, bringing in defenders Doneil Henry and Scott Kennedy, Stephen Eustaquio and Atiba Hutchinson in the midfield and Junior Hoilett and Liam Millar in attacking roles.
Canada can likely qualify for the World Cup with a win in their next game, against Costa Rica on March 24.

It’s been another frustrating half of football for Mexico. After an energetic start and some clear chances from Raúl Jiménez, the match quickly evened out as Panama settled into the game. The visitors had a chance cleared off Guillermo Ochoa’s line and they were dangerous from virtually all parts of the field. Martino told reporters on Tuesday that stopping Panama’s central midfield from having time on the ball would be key. Mexico’s midfield has been second best as Panama’s double pivot of Anibal Godoy and Adalberto Carrasquilla have helped the Canaleros earn a slight advantage in possession.

Another nervy second half to come from the Azteca.

Canada took a big step towards a perfect nine-point window in perhaps the weirdest way possible. Diving after a service from Cyle Larin, Atiba Hutchison's initial effort was blocked, only for it to come back off Hutchison's back and, eventually, over the line.

Not sure if you noticed, but it was extremely cold. That Jack Nicholson meme is getting plenty of mileage.

Well, that was far from Canada's best 45 minutes. Fatigue was evident as they struggled to string together precise, quick passes through the middle of the park. Far too much horizontal ball movement from Canada, but that was perhaps needed to avoid El Salvador's constant, heavy fouling. There were chances, including Stephen Eustaquio's free kick that forced El Salvador goalkeeper Kevin Carabantes to make a stretching save.

Luis "Buba" Lopez started the game for Honduras, but he didn't finish. It was revealed after the game that he was substituted at halftime due to suffering from hypothermia, and was receiving an IV in the locker room.
Buba López en este momento está siendo tratado con suero en el vestuario debido a una hipotermia. Quioto también se complicó pero ya se encuentra estable. Ambos jugadores de la selección de Honduras salieron de cambio en el medio tiempo.

Esto no puede ser.

Massive match for Mexico. A win is needed to keep pace with the USMNT. A draw or a loss will put head coach Tata Martino's job in jeopardy. Mexico's attack will get an immediate upgrade as Wolverhampton striker Raúl Jiménez starts for the first time this window. A front three of Jiménez, Hirving Lozano and Alexis Vega must set the tempo and impose themselves on the visitors from Panama.
This is it. 📝

With the match still happening, Gregg Berhalter found his way over to the stands to take a photo with members of the crowd. Can't say we've seen this from a manager before. Maybe he's disoriented from the cold.

Weston McKennie comes off for Roldan in the 83rd minute and went straight down the tunnel. He earned an early reprieve from the cold with his performance tonight.

After Tim Weah was booked for kicking out at a Honduran player following a collision in the box, the U.S. made a couple more subs: Ricardo Pepi came off for Jesus Ferreira, and Weah went off for Brenden Aaronson, who becomes the only player to appear in all 11 matches of the qualifying campaign.

The Honduran federation announced that two of its players stayed inside the locker room for the second half at Allianz Field, thanks to the low temperatures.

The U.S. completes the set-piece trifecta and helps Christian Pulisic out of his recent funk by getting him a goal off a corner kick in the 68th minute — less than five minutes after he first entered the match. 3-0 USA.

With the U.S. up 2-0 and as comfortable as a team can be in the horrible, horrible cold, Christian Pulisic enters in the 64th minute for a no-pressure cameo. He replaces Jordan Morris to a big ovation and is immediately fouled.

Tim Weah and Weston McKennie played a little two-man game in the second half, nearly resulting in a goal.
